For my Poe films, I wanted to move beyond mere monster pictures and create something with a more Gothic, European, almost fairy-tale quality. I consciously drew visual influence from German Expressionism and aimed for the dreamlike atmosphere found in films like Jean Cocteau's 'Beauty and the Beast.'
