We wanted to combine the futuristic elements with a very kinetic, very real martial arts aesthetic. And the movies we really loved were things like Drunken Master II, Jackie Chan's work, the films of Tsui Hark and John Woo. So when we came to Yuen Woo-ping, we said, 'We love the action in these films, and we want to do that, but in a completely different environment.'
