I wanted to make a movie that would be like a greatest hits of everything I love in martial arts and Japanese cinema. So, I took Lady Snowblood, I took The 36th Chamber of Shaolin, I took The Street Fighter with Sonny Chiba. I showed all these movies to my cast and crew. I said, 'These are the movies that we're making.'
