This is, in my opinion, Bergman’s most sensual film and one of his most beautiful in terms of photography and production design. It is also one of his most painful films and one of his most important in his filmography. It’s also one of his most influential films on my own cinema, especially because of how he used the color red, a color that is so representative of my own work. When I saw it in 1972, I was absolutely mesmerized by it.
