Ang Lee
Ang Lee OBS (Chinese: 李安; pinyin: Lǐ Ān; born October 23, 1954) is a Taiwanese filmmaker. His films are known for their emotional charge and exploration of repressed, hidden emotions. During his career, he has received international critical and popular acclaim and numerous accolades, including two Academy Awards, five BAFTA Awards, and three Golden Globe Awards. Life of Pi made him think about the silent films of Jacques Tati, about how you use space, how you frame things, how you move your camera. It's really just the visual.
I was inspired by Fellini's 'Amarcord,' because 'Amarcord' just shows a time and a place with a lot of crazy characters and a mood, and I wanted to capture that kind of mood and memory, rather than telling a specific story.
