I was intrigued by what the French were doing with the New Wave. They brought a freshness, a sense of realism mixed with charm, and a willingness to break traditional narrative rules.
I admired people like Jacques Tati, who could tell a story just visually. We worked very hard at trying to do that in the Pink Panther pictures.
