Brad Bird
Philip Bradley Bird (born September 24, 1957) is an American filmmaker, animator, and voice actor. He has had a career spanning over four decades in both live-action and animation. Bird was born in Montana and grew up in Oregon. He developed an interest in the art of animation early on, and completed his first short subject by age 14. I remember one shot in particular in Truffaut's Stolen Kisses (1968) where the camera pans across a street, and there's like 20 different things happening, but nothing's particularly highlighted. That kind of layered reality was something we wanted to achieve.
I remember one shot in particular in Truffaut's Stolen Kisses where the camera pans across a street, and there's like 20 different things happening, but nothing's particularly highlighted. That kind of layered reality was something we wanted to achieve.
I wanted to make a movie that really felt like a live-action film in its sensibility, in the way that it was staged, the lighting, the movement of the camera. I was inspired by films like Raiders of the Lost Ark and North by Northwest, and influences from Seven Samurai and Dr. Strangelove.
It's one of the best animated movies ever made and it's an incredibly influential film, at least for me.
