Federico Fellini (Italian: [fedeˈriːko felˈliːni]; 20 January 1920 – 31 October 1993) was an Italian film director and screenwriter. He is known for his distinctive style, which blends fantasy and baroque images with earthiness. He is recognized as one of the greatest and most influential filmmakers of all time.
There is a tragicomic aspect to La Dolce Vita, a sense of the sad clown behind the mask, which, subconsciously perhaps, comes from my lifelong admiration for Chaplin. His profound humanity, his unique way of making you laugh and weep almost simultaneously, was something I always felt drawn to.
