We wanted the Dreamhouse to be perfect but also slightly off. A lot of it came from things like Jacques Rivette's 'La Belle noiseuse,' where the painter is trying to make something and it's always falling apart.

That film really captures something about being a young woman that is both universal and also very specific to her world. The performances are just so real.
