Of course, it’s Kurosawa. High and Low. The rich family is in a very high location, literally, at the top of the hill. And the poor family is in the basement. It’s not necessarily a direct homage, but the very high/low contrast and structure is definitely inspired by Kurosawa’s High and Low.
