The most important influence was Jaws, and it was mostly in terms of the monster reveal. In most monster movies, they try to hide the creature and it's a big reveal at the end. But in Jaws, they show the shark quite early on. My decision to show the monster frequently in broad daylight was also a nod to Spielberg, who often showed the shark in similar conditions.
