Oh, a great deal [Miyazaki was an influence]. My whole life I’ve loved films where you’re introduced to a character that’s cute but also dangerous, like the creatures in Gremlins, or a lot of Miyazaki’s creatures. There’s something compelling about that dichotomy. And also, from Miyazaki, the idea of drawing these beautiful, lush backgrounds. We did something similar in Lilo & Stitch with the watercolors.
