I have always been a big fan of Robert Altman, especially 'Nashville' and 'Short Cuts,' because they manage to keep many stories alive at the same time and show how we as humans behave in a specific kind of environment.
It has to do with films like RULES OF THE GAME, where the characters are all in the same environment and all have different things to do at the same time.
