I love the way that Audition plays with audience expectation, particularly in the horror genre, because for two thirds of the movie, you feel like you’re watching a very restrained, very slow, very emotionally resonant drama, and then you’re slowly getting the rug pulled out from under you. That’s something I found really inspiring.
