An American couple drift toward emptiness in postwar North Africa.

The Sheltering Sky is the movie that made me want to travel. It’s a very melancholic movie, but there’s something about the way that Bertolucci shot the desert that is absolutely mind-blowing. The scale, the human fragility in front of nature, the sense of lost love—it’s a movie that had a very deep impact on me as a teenager. A very important movie.
