Of all the Fifth Generation directors, I think Hou Hsiao-hsien has had the greatest influence on me. I’m very fond of his work, and I’ve learned a lot from him. In the beginning, my work was most influenced by Hou Hsiao-hsien’s A City of Sadness and The Puppetmaster.
