I was very influenced by those early Wenders films—even before Alice in the Cities, like The Goalkeeper’s Fear of the Penalty and The Scarlet Letter... [Wenders] films were all interesting in that they were American stories or American-influenced things that were made in Germany, or the main characters were Germans in America.
